A method for the phosphanylation of 1-tert-butyl-1H-pyrrole was developed which allowed selective preparation of the 3,4-bis(dibromophosphanyl)-1H-pyrrole derivative – the key intermediate in the synthesis of pyrrole-derived diphosphanes which are useful in coordination chemistry and catalysis. These compounds were isolated and characterized, and their structures unambiguously confirmed by single crystal X-ray analysis.
