Reagent for vinylation

Vinyltriarylbismuthonium tetrafluoroborate

Vinyltriarylbismuthonium tetrafluoroborate is a reagent for α-vinylation of carbonyl compounds, particularly ketones, esters, and enones1. The reagent demonstrates good reactivity under mild conditions, typically using Li-enolates generated in situ, followed by vinylation at low temperatures, often around 0°C to room temperature. The reaction provides regioselective vinylation, making it suitable for aryl and aliphatic carbonyl substrates. The reagent works efficiently with a wide range of carbonyl compounds, including aromatic ketones, esters, and more sterically hindered enones, providing high yields with good regioselectivity.

Synonyms: triphenyl(vinyl)bismuth(V) tetrafluoroborate; Vinyl-Bis BF4
