Catalyst in the oxidation reactions
2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidin-1-oxyl (TEMPO) is a stable nitroxyl radical utilized as a catalyst in oxidation reactions1. It is a red crystalline solid with remarkable stability, rendering it shelf-stable and well-suited for various applications. TEMPO is used mainly for the oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols. It has impressive solubility in both organic solvents and aqueous environments. This attribute enhances its usability in various oxidation contexts. Depending on the conditions different oxidants can be used: in aqueous it partners with hypochlorite for oxidations, while in organic environments it collaborates with Cu/O2.
