Reagent for N-formylation

N-(Diethylcarbamoyl)-N-methoxyformamide is a formylating reagent known for its exceptional chemoselectivity towards primary amines1. It selectively reacts with primary amines while remaining unreactive to alcohol and secondary amine groups in the substrate. The procedure is straightforward, conducted at ambient temperature, and normally completed within a few hours with high yields. The reagent is bench-stable, easy to handle, and persistent in hydroxylic solvents for a durable time, making it a practical choice for various applications.
