Reagent for HWE olefinations

Methyl 2-(dimethyl phosphono)-2-methoxyacetate

Methyl 2-(dimethyl phosphono)-2-methoxyacetate is a stabilized phosphonate ester used in Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons (HWE) olefinations1. It reacts with aldehydes or ketones under basic conditions to give α,β-unsaturated esters with high E-selectivity. The reagent is stable, easy-to-handle, and compatible with aromatic, aliphatic, and heteroaromatic aldehydes, tolerating both electron-rich and electron-poor substituents.

Synonyms: methyl 2-dimethoxyphosphoryl-2-methoxy-acetate; methyl 2-(dimethoxyphosphoryl)-2-methoxyacetate; methyl (dimethoxyphosphoryl)(methoxy)acetate; methyl 2-dimethoxyphosphoryl-2-methoxyacetate
