Reagent for heterocyclization

(E)-N-(Dimethylamino)methylenethiourea

(E)-N-(Dimethylamino)methylenethiourea is a versatile reagent for synthesizing carbamothioyl-containing intermediates, key building blocks for various heterocyclic compounds1. It reacts with tosyl chloride to form precursors for triazepines, imidazoles, pyrimidines, and oxadiazoles. These transformations proceed under mild conditions with good yields and broad substrate compatibility. The resulting heterocycles exhibit potential antifungal activity, highlighting the reagent’s utility in medicinal chemistry. The simplicity of usage and reactivity make the reagent valuable for constructing nitrogen- and sulfur-rich scaffolds.

Synonyms: (E)-N'-carbamothioyl-N,N-dimethylformimidamide; [(E)-(dimethylamino)methylidene]thiourea; (E)-dimethylaminomethylenethiourea
