Reagent for dichloroacetylation

Dichloromeldrum’s acid (DiCMA) is a bench-stable reagent used for the dichloroacetylation of primary amines under mild, green conditions1. It efficiently converts anilines, benzylamines, and alkylamines into α,α-dichloroacetamides at room temperature without the need for catalysts, bases, or preactivation. The reaction is clean, generating only acetone and CO2 as byproducts. DiCMA offers a broad substrate scope and excellent atom economy, making it a sustainable alternative to dichloroacetyl chloride.
