Reagent for triflation

N-Phenyltrifluoromethanesulfonimide

N-Phenyltrifluoromethanesulfonimide is a versatile reagent used primarily as a milder alternative to triflic anhydride (Tf2O) for triflation1. The reagent is stable and non-hygroscopic, making it easy to handle and store. Applications of N-phenyltriflimide include the protection of amines, conversion of alcohols to triflates, and the regiospecific formation of vinyl triflates from enolates. It is particularly effective in the formation of enol and aryl triflates, which are important intermediates in organic synthesis for further transformations such as palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions.
