Reagent for oxidation, chlorination, and amidation

N,N-Dichlorobenzenesulfonamide is a powerful oxidizing and chlorinating reagent widely used in organic synthesis1. Its scope includes the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes, ketones, and carboxylic acids, as well as the chloroamidation of carbon-carbon multiple bonds to form chloroamides. Additionally, it facilitates chloroetherification reactions with alkenes and can form aziridines and α,β-dehydroamino acid derivatives. This reagent is a white to light yellow solid that is heat- and shock-sensitive and should be handled with care. It requires storage in a refrigerator and may develop pressure in containers over time.
Synonyms: N,N-dichlorobenzenesulfonamid; benzenesulfonamide, N,N-dichloro-; benzenesulfonic acid dichloroamide; dichloroamine B
