Reagent for thiolation of primary amines

Traut’s reagent

Traut’s reagent is a cyclic thioimidate compound for the thiolation of primary amines that is useable for peptides or aminoglycosides1. It is a white crystalline powder, soluble in water, methanol, and DMSO1. The reagent also reacts with a hydroxy group, but the reaction is approximately 100 times slower related to amines1. Traut’s reagent is applicable for biological molecule modification and further conjugation with other macromolecules, surfaces, markers, or cross-linking2.

Synonyms: 2-iminothiolane hydrochloride; dihydro-2(3H)-thiophenimine hydrochloride; thiolan-2-imine hydrochloride; dihydrothiophen-2(3H)-imine hydrochloride
