Reagent for silylation
Triisopropylsilyl trifluoromethanesulfonate (TIPS triflate) is a highly reactive silylating reagent and Lewis acid, primarily used for the protection of alcohols, ketones, and lactones by forming triisopropylsilyl ethers1. Its scope includes protecting terminal alkynes, forming enol silyl ethers, and promoting conjugate additions in organic synthesis. TIPS triflate is also applied to synthesizing (triisopropylsilyl)diazomethane in obtaining silyl-substituted nitrilimines. This colorless oil is moisture-sensitive and should be stored under an inert atmosphere at low temperatures (0°C) due to its rapid reaction with water and protic solvents.
