Reagent for difluorocarbene generation

Trimethylsilyl fluorosulfonyldifluoroacetate (TFDA) is an easily accessible difluorocarbene precursor. It is a colorless liquid, with good solubility in ether, toluene, and diglyme, but with high susceptibility to hydrolysis1. Notably, the reagent can be successfully applied to quite unreactive alkenes such as acrylate esters2. The reagent does not react with α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, and ketones, but this can be overcome by protection and deprotection of the enone carbonyl group.
Synonyms: trimethylsilyl (fluorosulfonyl)difluoroacetate; trimethylsilyl 2,2-difluoro-2-(fluorosulfonyl)acetate; trimethylsilyl 2-fluorosulfonyl-2,2-difluoroacetate; TFDA
