![Diethyl cyanomethylphosphonate](/images/Reagents/EN300-55952_Scheme.jpg)
Diethyl cyanomethylphosphonate is a modified Witting reagent that allows the synthesis of α,β-unsaturated nitriles. It is an oil, soluble in THF, DME, and DCM1. The stereochemistry of the α,β-unsaturated nitriles is variable depending on the substrate and the reaction conditions1. In general, the properties of the reagent are similar to other Wittig reagents.
