Reagent for t-butyl ester- and etherification
tert-Butyl 2,2,2-trichloroacetimidate is a reagent for synthesizing t-butyl esters and ethers in soft conditions with high yields1. It is a white solid soluble in organic solvents, preferably nonpolar ones, especially cyclohexane. Polar solvents promote ionization and decomposition of the reagent. In the reaction of ether formation, a less hindered hydroxy group is preferable, and in the case of secondary alcohols - 2 equivalent of reagent is needed for a more effective reaction. After the purification procedure, the reaction yield is about 80‑90%.
