Recent publication by our chemists describes gram-scale synthesis and some chemical transformations of novel trifunctional C2 building blocks – MIDA boronate shown below. This small molecule can be selectively modified by any of the three functional groups (i.e.alkene, boronate and TMS). Such building blocks were highlighted by Burke’s group in their Nature paperreporting iterative chemoselective cross-coupling to form polyene natural products, similar to the use of N-Fmoc amino acids for the synthesis of peptides.
