The recyclization of 3-formylchromones with a variety of 1,3-NCN-binucleophiles promoted by chlorotrimethylsilane was investigated. A simple and flexible general procedure for the synthesis of series of 5-(2hydroxybenzoyl)pyrimidines and their heterofused analogues was proposed. A set of pyrimidines was obtained in high preparative yields.
